In Clio Grow, you can create a contact on the Contacts page, in Quick Intake, in the Leads inbox, or in a matter. Create a contact to record the person or organization and capture the intake details your firm reports on later, including contact type, lead (marketing) source, campaign, and tags. A contact becomes a client once it has a matter, so the route you choose depends on whether you are recording a person now or opening a matter at the same time.
Tip: To bring a contact across from Clio Manage rather than create one, refer to Sync Contacts in Clio Grow. To load contacts in bulk from a spreadsheet, refer to Import Contacts and Matters Into Clio Grow.
Create a contact
Four routes create a contact. Quick Intake and the Leads inbox also create a matter, which turns the contact into a client in the same pass.

Use this route to record a contact without opening a matter.
- In Clio Grow, click Contacts.
- Click Create new contact.
- Select New person or New company.
- Complete the contact details. Refer to the section below.
- Click Submit.
From Quick Intake
Use this route to create both a contact and a matter.
- In Clio Grow, click Quick Intake.
- Select whether the contact is a new person, a new company, or an existing contact.
- Enter the contact details. Where the contact already exists in Clio Grow, select it from the results.

Understand contact details
The contact form allows you to capture typical details your firm may need as well as custom fields your firm has set up in advance. Keeping them consistent is what makes the Contacts page filters and your intake reporting worth reading.
- Person/company details
Record basic person of company details along with contact information, physical address(es), tags, contact custom fields, and the contact type indicating where the contact sits in their journey with your firm.
- Matter details
Record details about relevant case details collected about the contact including custom matter fields.
- Marketing information
Record information about how the prospective client found your firm, including a source, campaign, and/or referral.
Note: Clio Grow formats phone numbers automatically, adding parentheses and hyphens. To enter numbers exactly as you type them, click Settings > Contacts, then under Contact options, clear Enable automatic phone number formatting.
