Navigate Clio Manage

In Clio, the Manage section holds your firm's tasks, time, billing, payments, bank accounts, and reports. Each item opens the records for one part of your practice, so work moves from a task to a time entry to a paid invoice. Knowing what each item holds helps you find a bill, a payment, or a performance metric without searching.

Tip: To change settings for the Manage section, click Manage settings in the user menu. Learn more in Set Up Clio Manage. The header, daily operations, and shared records such as Matters and Contacts are covered in Navigate Clio.

Open the Manage dashboard

The Manage dashboard measures your own performance and the firm's billing, utilization, realization, and collection. Some sections depend on your role and permissions.

  1. In the left navigation, click Manage.
  2. Click Personal Dashboard or Firm Dashboard.

Personal Dashboard

The Personal Dashboard tab gives you a snapshot of your own performance. Sections marked for billing users are available to administrators and to users with billing and reports permissions whose billing rate visibility is unrestricted.

Section What it holds Who can access it
Hourly Metrics Your Billable Hours Target compared with the billable time you logged, for Today, This Week, This Month, or This Year. Non-billable time sits outside this metric. Every user
Invoicing Metrics for Firm The number and total value of draft, unpaid, and overdue invoices. Click View on a card to open the matching invoices. Billing users
Financial Metrics Actual, expected, and target billed time for today, this week, this month, and this year, plotted against your performance targets. The calculations use a 260-day year to account for weekends. Billing users
Detailed Annual Report The target billable time for the year compared with the billable time you logged. [VERIFY: section remains below Financial Metrics.] Billing users

To set your personal performance targets, click Personal performance settings in Hourly Metrics. Learn more in the "Set up personal performance target" section of Clio Manage Detailed Annual Report.

Firm Dashboard

The Firm Dashboard tab gives managers, administrators, and users with reporting permissions the utilization, realization, and collection metrics for the firm. Use the date selector at the top of the page to choose a year. Every metric uses the activity date, not the payment or bill date.

Metric What it measures How it is calculated
Utilization Productivity, as the share of the day spent on billable work Billable hours worked divided by available working hours for the days in the month, based on an eight-hour available workday
Realization Value efficiency, as the share of recorded billable work that reaches a bill, excluding discounts Total billed hours minus discounted hours, divided by total billable hours worked
Collection How much billed work clients have paid for Total hours collected divided by total non-discounted hours billed

Each user's working days come from their personal performance target. If your firm uses multiple currencies, select a currency from the currency dropdown on either dashboard tab to list metrics in a currency other than the firm's default currency.
