Track Prospective Clients With Opportunities in Clio Grow

In Clio Grow, an opportunity is a prospective case your firm tracks through intake, from first contact to the decision to take it on. Each opportunity keeps its contacts, intake work, notes, communications, and files in one place. When the firm takes on the case, the opportunity converts to a matter, so the record carries straight into the work that follows.

Tip: The Pipeline arranges opportunities by status, so the whole intake funnel fits on one screen. Refer to Clio Grow Pipeline.

Understand opportunities

Clio Grow is a client intake tool, so every opportunity sits in one of two states. Intake covers prospective clients and cases still under review. Hired covers cases your firm has decided to take on. Fields that stay with the record for its whole life, such as the matter type, keep the word "matter" after conversion.

Note: At firms where Clio Manage and Clio Grow share matters, a converted opportunity opens on the matter's intake page in Clio Manage. Refer to Convert Matters.

Find opportunities

The Opportunities list holds every opportunity your firm has created. Filters narrow the list to one status, practice area, or firm user.

  1. Go to Opportunities.
  2. Select View all, Intake, or Hired.
  3. Optional: Click Apply filters to narrow the list.

Open an opportunity's page

You can view the opportunity's page to review everything about one prospective case. It includes the opportunity details, the contacts linked to the opportunity, and the marketing events and email campaigns tied to those contacts. A timeline lists the activity on the opportunity, and a conflict check runs from the same page.

Tip: Run a conflict check from the opportunity before the firm agrees to take on the case. An early check protects existing client relationships and keeps intake decisions on record.

  1. Go to Opportunities.
  2. Click the opportunity name.
  3. Review the following sections:
