Manage AI is a package of AI-powered capabilities built directly into your existing Clio Manage account. It is designed to transform routine administrative work into completed actions. Once activated by an administrator, Manage AI helps your firm streamline workflows, reduce administrative time, and focus on practising law.

Availability and requirements
Manage AI is an integrated upgrade to Clio Manage. After your firm purchases this feature set, the AI tools become instantly active within your account. To enable Manage AI, an administrator will need to activate this feature and accept the terms and conditions.
Note: If your firm needs to upgrade its subscription plan or purchase this feature set, contact your firm administrator.
- Availability: An administrator can enable Manage AI for Standard, Premium, Pro, and Suite subscriptions.
- Activation: Once the feature is purchased, the AI capabilities are available to every user at your firm who uses Clio Manage, ensuring a consistent experience for the whole team.
Understand how Manage AI handles your data
Clio applies the same high-level security, privacy, and compliance standards across all its products, including Manage AI. Review our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for more information.
Important: Before enabling Manage AI, especially if your firm has specific data residency or HIPAA obligations, consult with your internal compliance team or legal counsel.
- Data protection: Your data is protected by Clio's robust security protocols.
- Privacy: Manage AI operates within your existing user permissions, ensuring it only accesses data you are authorised to view. Your data is never used to train external AI models.
- Data location: After processing your requests, any resulting data remains securely stored within your region, in line with Clio's standard data handling practices.
- Compliance: You are responsible for ensuring your firm's use of Manage AI aligns with your local regulatory and compliance requirements.
Access Manage AI features
You can access Manage AI from two primary locations in Clio Manage: the AI Launchpad and the Matter Dashboard.
The AI Launchpad
The AI Launchpad is the central hub for all Manage AI features, accessible through the AI gem located at the top of the main navigation bar.
- Click the AI gem to open the AI Launchpad.
- From the launchpad, you can quickly:
- Schedule events from documents.
- Automate your bills.
- Analyse your documents.
- Ask a Question.
- Create tasks, time entries, and other activities.
- Catch up on a matter.
- Get writing assistance for emails and other documents.
Matter Dashboard
The matter dashboard highlights AI Actions, which are proactive recommendations suggested by Manage AI based on recent matter activity.
Note: If your firm also subscribes to Clio Work, you will see specific legal research and analysis recommendations.
Review suggested actions: Manage AI suggests the next best steps, such as drafting a client update, and after a task is completed or scheduling a follow-up event.
Manage AI key workflows
Manage AI transforms routine administrative workflows across five core areas: Scheduling, Planning, Communication, and Billing.
Schedule
Use Manage AI to extract key dates and deadlines from documents and instantly create calendar events.
- Extract events: Manage AI reviews court documents (e.g., scheduling orders) you upload and identify events, dates, and deadlines.
- Review and verify: Events are drafted in your calendar for your review, showing the source content used for the extraction so you can verify the information before saving.
Plan and guide
You can access planning and guidance workflows primarily through the Ask a Question chat panel and AI Actions from a matter's dashboard. Manage AI helps you manage your work, get context, and retrieve information quickly.

Draft communication
Manage AI drafts professional client communications based on recent matter activity.
- Draft updates: When you complete tasks, upload documents, or have upcoming calendar events, Manage AI anticipates the next step and drafts the first version of a client email or SMS message.
- Customise: Review the draft and revise the tone or content before sending it to your client.
Automate bills and expenses
With Manage AI, you can automate the generation and approval of client bills and streamline expense entry creation.
Note: Manage AI cannot currently generate bills for contingency or flat-fee matters.
- Automate expense entry: When you upload receipts, Manage AI automatically fills in expense details, eliminating the need for manual data entry.

Generate draft bills: Manage AI automatically prepares draft bills from recorded time and expense entries based on your pre-configured firm preferences.
- This feature is designed to generate bills based on the pre-configurations set by the billing manager.
- Set threshold: The system can be configured to generate bills for matters that exceed a specific Work In Progress threshold, such as $1,500.
Review Manage AI activity
Clear chat history
You can clear your chat history at any time.
- Click the AI gem.
- Click Ask or select the Ask a Question subtab to open the chat window.
- Click the three dots in the bottom corner of the chat window.
- Select Clear History.
View event log
The Manage AI Event Log in your firm's Settings provides a record of all actions taken by Manage AI, helping your firm meet compliance standards.
- Go to Settings and select Manage AI Event Log.
- View the records, which include the Timestamp, the User on behalf of whom Manage AI acted, and the Event Description.
- Optional: Under Details, click View for database IDs, user details, and IP address information.
