After you create your Word template, you can manage it using the add-in. This includes editing, importing fields from other templates, and maintaining consistency across your template library.
Edit Microsoft Word document templates
You can make changes to any Word document template directly through the add-in. The template will be saved to the Word templates subtab in your Clio Draft Library. Refresh your page on the platform before generating the updated template.
- Open Microsoft Word and sign in to the add-in.
- Click the three-line menu icon at the bottom and then select Templates.
- Select the template that you want to update.
- Make any changes and then click Save template.
Import content from existing templates
Creating subsequent templates is faster because you can import all previously created cards and fields, or copy complex conditions from an existing template.
Import cards and fields
- In the add-in, enter a name for the new template and click Continue.
- Click Import fields from existing templates.
- Select the template or template set from which you want to import cards and fields.
- Click Import.
Import conditions
You can copy text containing conditions from one template to another, and Clio Draft will automatically build the condition for you in the destination template's add-in.
Note: This process can take a few minutes. Avoid clicking in your document while waiting for the condition to appear in the Conditions tab of the add-in.
- In the add-in, open the new template and select the Conditions tab.
- In the source template, copy the text, including the condition tags.
- Paste that text into your new template. Clio Draft will automatically build the condition for you.
Log out and reboot the add-in
If you experience issues, you may need to log out or reboot the add-in.
Log Out
- In the Home ribbon, click Clio Draft Template Builder to open the add-in.
- Click the three lines at the bottom and then select Log out.

Clear cache
Mac users can follow the steps below without clearing browser cache.

- Click the “i” or ”<” icon near the top right corner of the add-in.
- Click Clear Web Cache.
- Click the “i” or "<" icon again and click Reload.
