Customise Conflict Check Search Settings

The parameters for conflict checks are flexible, allowing you to tailor the search to suit your firm’s unique needs. You can adjust your search to be as broad or specific as needed and save your preference for future searches. The search settings for conflict searches are set by firm users with Administrator or General Access permission and apply to conflict checks across the entire firm.

Set your search preference

Conflict check search preferences apply to all firm user accounts. Flex search will default search parameters to allow variations to your original search. This is a great way to catch possible spelling errors or similar names.

Tip: When you are ready to perform conflict checks, refer to Conflict Checks in Clio Manage and Clio Grow for help.

  1. Navigate to the Conflict check summary page.
  2. Click Conflict check preferences in the top right.
  3. Select your preferred Subject type (Person, Company, Keyword).
  4. Select the Search type you use most often (Flex search or Exact search).
  5. Select your default Search categories.
  6. Click Save preference.

Use advanced search options

After you fill in basic identifying information for a person or company, you can select advanced options to fine-tune your search.

Adjust search criteria

You can adjust the following criteria to broaden or narrow your search:

  • Person, company, or keyword search: Select whether you are searching for a person, a company, or a general keyword.
  • Name variations: You can add variations for a person’s first, middle, or last name, or for a company name. For a person search, select the Search matches for full name checkbox to require all provided names to match exactly. If you deselect this box, results will return when even one of the names you provide matches.
  • Label: Add a label to help identify the search on the results report. The label is not part of the search.

Access more details

Click More details to select advanced search options:

  • Additional contact information: Include details such as middle name, contact information (including email addresses and phone numbers), address, and date of birth (D.O.B.).
  • Flex search or Exact search:
    • Flex search allows for results that are similar to your search parameters.
    • Exact search limits results to exact matches.

Select search categories

Use the checkboxes to indicate where Clio should search for conflicts within Clio Manage and Clio Grow.

  • Specific categories: Search specific categories such as calendar events, notes, document names, and communication logs.

Note: If your firm is on an Advanced plan or higher, selecting document categories will search the full content of documents and calendar event descriptions, not just their names or titles.

Run multiple searches at once

You can run up to ten individual searches before generating your results. This is useful for running variations of a single search (by adding or removing information) or for including known adverse parties in the conflict check.

To add another search, click Add another search.
