Connect Bank Accounts to Online Payments

Connecting a bank account to online payments lets your firm collect client payments directly through Clio Payments and keep transaction records in sync. Connecting links a Clio Manage operating account to a Clio Payments payout account, and disconnecting removes that link when an account no longer needs to accept online payments. With an account connected, you can accept payments on bills, secure payment links, and payment plans.

Understand payout account connections

When you set up Clio Payments for the first time, connect at least one Clio Manage operating account to online payments after your application is approved. Connecting an account lets you collect payment on bills and sync transaction records with your accounting platform.

Note: Each payout account connects to one Clio Manage bank account. A single payout account cannot connect to more than one Clio Manage bank account.

Connect a bank account to online payments

  1. Go to Accounts.
  2. For the relevant account, click Connect to payments. You can also click the down arrow next to Edit and select Connect to online payments.
  3. Select from the list of accounts you connected when signing up for Clio Payments. To use a different payout account, click Add payout account.
  4. Click Connect.

Note: If a payout account is not available to select, it may still be in verification. You can connect it once verification is complete.

Disconnect a bank account from online payments

Before you disconnect an account, complete these steps so clients can continue to pay and funds deposit correctly:

  • Confirm that any sent bills using the account as the deposit account are paid, or update those bills to a different deposit account and resend them.
  • If you use secure payment links or QR codes, update any links that point to the account with a link to a different account.

After completing these steps, disconnect the account.

  1. Go to Accounts.
  2. For the relevant account, click the down arrow next to Edit and select Disconnect from online payments.
  3. In the confirmation prompt, select Disconnect.
