Create and Manage Matter Tags

In Clio Manage, a tag is a coloured label your firm creates to categorise a matter. Tags let your firm group matters by case type, referral source, or any other category that matters to your practice, without adding a custom field. Once applied, a tag helps you locate and filter related matters across the matters table.

Matters and contacts draw from the same tag list. See Contact Tags to learn more. A tag you create, rename, or delete from a matter is the same tag available on contacts, and the reverse also applies.

Note: Administrators create, rename, and delete tags. Any user with access to a matter applies an existing tag to it.

Create and manage matter tags

The Tag settings modal is where your firm creates, renames, and deletes tags. Open it from either location below.

Tip: Short, specific tag names, and a small overall number of tags, keep this categorisation useful as your firm's matter list grows.
