Edit custom fields and field sets in Clio Manage
When working with custom fields in Clio Manage, you can edit the name, make fields required or default, from your account settings. If you need to edit the value of a field, you can do so directly from the matter card or when editing the matter.
Note: Only administrators can create, edit, or delete custom fields and custom field sets.
Important: If you edit the name of a custom field, the name change will be reflected in all existing contacts or matters with that custom field.
- Go to Settings > Custom Fields.
- Select Matter Custom Fields or Contact Custom Fields.
- Select Individual Fields or Field Sets.
- Find your custom field or field set and click Edit.
- Go to the main Matters tab and select a matter.
- Click the Custom Fields subtab.
- Hover over the custom fields you want to edit. It will highlight.
- Click the custom field to open the edit value box.
- Update the custom field.

click anywhere outside

- To cancel your changes, click the X.
Modify order of custom fields in Clio Manage
If you need to change the order that your custom fields appear when you are selecting them on a matter or contact, you can modify their order in your custom field settings.
Note: Custom fields in field sets are ordered based on the individual custom field order, not the order that they were added to the field set.
- Go to Settings > Custom Fields.
- Select Matter Custom Fields or Contact Custom Fields.
- Select Individual Fields.
- Click Modify Order.
- Change the order and click Save Order.
Edit custom fields in Clio Grow
Note: The option to edit custom fields in Clio Grow has limited functionality. You cannot change the field name or type. You can only select whether you want the custom field to appear for all new contacts or matters.
- Go to Settings > Custom fields.
- Click Edit.
- Check or uncheck the box for Add to all new contacts or Add to all new matters.
- Click Update.
