Get Started with Clio Payments

Reliable payment collection protects your firm's cash flow and gives clients a convenient way to settle bills. Clio Payments integrates with Clio Manage so your firm accepts online payments, saves client payment methods, automates payment plans, and reconciles transactions in one platform. Using Clio Payments shortens collection time and syncs electronic payments to bills automatically, which reduces manual recording.

Important: Account administrators and the primary subscriber can sign up for and set up Clio Payments.

Note: Clio Payments is available to firms in the UK (excluding Jersey, Guernsey, and the Isle of Man) and Ireland. Firms process debit and credit card payments and Pay-by-Bank transfers, save client payment methods, and create payment plans, and clients can pay by Apple Pay and Google Pay. Payments pay out in your firm's local currency based on the registered business address, regardless of the default currency in your General Bill Settings.

Understand the two-stage setup

Setting up Clio Payments has two stages, and both are complete before your firm accepts online payments:

Application

Submit your firm's business and ownership information for review. Clio typically reviews applications in one to two days.

Setup

After approval, connect your payout accounts to your Clio Manage ledger accounts to activate payment processing.

Understand what Clio Payments enables

Once active, Clio Payments supports these workflows across billing and trust:

  • Accept debit card, credit card, Pay-by-Bank transfer, Apple Pay, and Google Pay payments for bills and trust requests
  • Save client payment methods for automated recurring charges
  • Create and manage payment plans toward outstanding balances
  • Generate secure payment links and QR codes for client invoices
  • Sync completed payments to Clio Manage bill records automatically

Important: Clio's payment processing partner processes transactions across regions. Your use of Clio Payments may include transferring transaction-related data to the United States for processing, including your firm's business name, business number, business address, email, and phone number, your business owner information, your connected bank account information (account name, type, number, and sort number), and your client's credit card information or payout account information. This data transfer follows the Terms of Service.
