In Clio's mobile app, communication logs such as email and phone logs can be found within a matter. Texts, secure messages to firm members, and client portals, on the other hand, can be found in your mobile app Inbox. Additionally, you can file an email to your matter using that matter's Maildrop address.

Tip: If you are using Outlook or Gmail for emailing clients, you can file emails more quickly and efficiently on the desktop app using Clio's Outlook Add-in or Clio's Gmail Add-on.

Create email and phone logs

In the mobile app, you can create a new email log or phone log by clicking the icon for the create new menu or by creating the new communications log from directly within a matter.

  1. Click the + icon for the create new menu.
  2. Select Email log or Phone log.
  3. Complete the communications log details.
  4. Click Save.

 

Filter email and phone logs

You can filter email and phone logs from within a matter's details page. You can filter email and phone logs by the type of communications log, firm user, contact, and whether the communications log has an attached time entry or not.

  1. Find your matter by searching for it in the search bar or in the Matters subtab of the Home tab.
  2. Under Matter contents, click Communications logs.
  3. Click the filter icon in the top right.
  4. Select your filter parameters and then click Done

 

Edit email and phone logs

You can edit email and phone logs from within a matter's details page. 

  1. Find your matter by searching for it in the search bar or in the Matters subtab of the Home tab.
  2. Under Matter contents, click Communications logs.
  3. Optional: Click the filter icon in the top right to narrow your results.
  4. Select the log you want to edit and click Edit.
  5. Make your changes and then click Save.

 

Delete email and phone logs

You can delete email and phone logs from within a matter's details page. 

  1. Find your matter by searching for it in the search bar or in the Matters subtab of the Home tab.
  2. Under Matter contents, click Communications logs.
  3. Optional: Click the filter icon in the top right to narrow your results.
  4. Click the event.
  5. Click Edit and select Delete email log or Delete phone log. You can also click the three vertical dots and select Delete email log or Delete phone log.
  6. When asked to confirm, click Delete.

 

Send new texts and secure messages

In the mobile app, you can send a new SMS text message to a contact or secure message to another firm member or co-counsel from the Inbox. You can also send secure messages from the create new icon.

Note: You cannot create new client portals from the mobile app, but you can respond to client portal messages from the Inbox.

Send text:

Once you initiate the text conversation, your firm can then receive texts from the contact. You can only send contacts SMS messages, but contacts can send you SMS and MMS texts, including photos, videos, GIFs, audio files, and basic .txt documents. Received documents will be saved in the Documents folder for each of the contact's matters.

  1. Go to the Home tab and then click the Inbox icon in the top right of the header.
  2. Select the Texts subtab and then click New text.
  3. Select a contact. Once a contact is selected, any previous text correspondence will automatically appear.
  4. Type your text and then click the blue arrow icon to send the text. 

 

Send secure message:

Secure messages are internal message sent between firm members and co-counsel. This feature is a component of Clio's secure co-counsel portal Clio for Co-Counsel. You can send secure messages on the mobile app from the Inbox or from the icon for the create new menu.

  1. Go to the Home tab and then click the Inbox icon in the top right of the header.
  2. Select Internal messages.
  3. Click New message.
  4. Complete the secure message details.
  5. Click Send.

 

View and respond to texts, secure messages, and client portal messages

In the mobile app, you can respond to texts from contacts, secure messages from other firm members or co-counsel, and client portal messages from contacts. All saved conversation threads can be found in the Inbox.

  1. Go to the Home tab and then click the Inbox icon in the top right of the header.
  2. Select either Client portals, Texts, or Internal messages.
  3. Click a message thread to open it.
  4. Type your message and then click the blue arrow icon to send the message.

 

File emails using Maildrop address

If you need to forward an email from your email inbox to a matter, you can do so using the matter's Maildrop address. 

Tip: If you are using Outlook or Gmail for emailing clients, you can file emails more quickly and efficiently on the desktop app using Clio's Outlook Add-in or Clio's Gmail Add-on.

  1. Find your matter by searching for it in the search bar or in the Matters subtab of the Home tab.
  2. Under Matter contents, click Communications logs.
  3. Click the Maildrop icon (two overlapping squares) in the top right of the header.
  4. Click Copy maildrop address and then paste it into the To, Cc, or Bcc fields when sending the email that you want to file to the matter. You can also click Copy and compose email to begin drafting an email that you will file to the matter.
