In Clio Manage, you can create contacts for the people and organisations your firm works with, including prospective clients, clients, companies, co-counsel, and opposing counsel. Contacts let you confirm who you are dealing with before you open a matter, send a bill, or run a conflict check. A contact becomes a client once you add a matter to it, which links case information, billing, and communications to the same record.
Tip: Connect your Clio Manage and Clio Grow accounts to synchronise basic contact information. Learn more about shared contacts and how to opt in.
Understand contacts
Clio Manage provides two base contact types. You can convert a contact from one type to the other at any time by editing the contact. Contacts with at least one matter display a client label next to the contact name in the contacts table and on the contact dashboard.
All users in your account have access to all contacts. To control what each user can do with contact records, refer to Roles and Permissions in Clio Manage.
- Person: An individual, such as a prospective client, a client, a witness, or opposing counsel.
- Company: An organisation. A company contact holds employees, which are person contacts linked to the company.
