In Clio, contacts are general or personal contacts, potential clients or leads, clients, companies, co-counsel, opposition counsel, etc. When you add a matter to a contact, the contact becomes a client for whom you keep track of important case information. You can view contacts by viewing an individual contact card, but you can also view all contacts and data in the main Contacts page in both Clio Grow and Clio Manage.
View all contacts in overview page
Since Clio Grow is a client intake tool used to track prospective clients, contacts in Grow can be in one of four states—lead, clients, did not hire, or unassigned. Leads are prospective clients. Clients are cases that your firm has decided to take on. Did not hire refers to prospective clients whose matters you will not take on. Unassigned refers to an unassigned state. You can view contacts by status once they have been created in the main Contacts page:
- Go to Contacts.
- Select View all, Leads, Clients, Did Not Hire, or Unassigned.
- Optional: Click Apply filters to sort contacts by specific parameters.

Understand and opt-in to Grow and Manage shared contacts
Since contacts in Clio Grow and Clio Manage are currently separate, contact information does not sync between the two. With shared contacts, basic contact information will sync between Clio Grow and Clio Manage. This means that when you create a new contact or edit a contact's basic information in one application, the changes will sync and be the same in the other application, allowing you to save time when creating contacts, perform conflict checks more efficiently, prevent duplicate contacts, and ensure consistent and accurate contact information across Clio Grow and Clio Manage.
Your firm account's primary subscriber can opt-in to shared contacts by following the steps below. Once you are opted-in, you cannot revert back to separate contact databases. Be sure to check your contacts before opting-in to ensure that you do not lose any basic contact information.
Note: At this time, only basic contact information will be the same across Clio Grow and Clio Manage. This includes the contact's name, email address, phone number, and address.
Important: During the opt-in period, a contact's basic information in Clio Manage will sync to the contact in Clio Grow and override any existing fields in Clio Grow. If a Clio Manage field is empty, the Clio Grow data for that field will populate in Clio Manage. This means that if a contact's name in Clio Manage is different from the name in Clio Grow, the Clio Manage name will replace the Clio Grow name. Once opt-in is complete, the above exceptions do not apply. Changes made in one application will immediately be reflected in the other.
