NetDocuments is a cloud-based document management service that easily integrates with Clio. With this integration, you can upload documents to NetDocuments and associate them with matters in Clio and manage documents directly in NetDocuments or Clio.
Note: This integration is specific to individual user accounts. This means that each Clio user will ned to log in and authorize their own NetDocuments account within Clio.
Set up NetDocuments in Clio
- Go to Settings > Documents > Document Sources.
- Click Configure NetDocuments.
- Select your region and then click Link NetDocuments Account.
- Authorize Clio by signing into NetDocuments.
- Optional: Check the box for Make NetDocuments the default document source if you want the NetDocuments subtab to appear as the first tab when you view the main Documents tab in Clio or any Documents subtab for a contact or matter.
- Select the Matters (Open, Open and Pending, or All) are to be synced from Clio to NetDocuments.
- Under Select NetDocuments Cabinet, select the NetDocuments Cabinet in which NetDocuments will be set up.

Select whether you want to set up the integration with a Workspace or Cabinet Folders view. Learn more about these two options here.
- Workspace: Each matter in Clio will need to be linked individually to NetDocuments. New NetDocuments users can click this link to download a file that can be imported to NetDocuments. This file will automatically create contacts and matters in NetDocuments and links them to the corresponding Clio matters. - Cabinet: Clio will automatically create a Clio folder in NetDocuments that contains folders for your matters in NetDocuments. Individual linking or reconfiguration is not required. You can have a maximum of 500 client folders using this view. Learn more about setting up and using your Cabinet view in NetDocuments here.
- Once your Workspace or Cabinet setup is complete, select either View by Workspaces or View by Folders in the integration setup page in Clio Manage.
- Click Save Changes.
Link matters to NetDocuments (Workspace)
If you selected the Workspace view, you will need to link your Clio matters NetDocuments. This is required whenever you create a new matter in Clio. This step is not required for the Cabinet view.
- In Clio Manage, go to the matter's Documents subtab.
- Select NetDocuments.

Depending on how you set up your Profile Attributes in NetDocuments, link the appropriate contact and/or matter. You can also create a new contact and matter if the contact and matter have not already been created in NetDocuments.
- Once linking is complete, documents uploaded in either Clio Manage or NetDocuments will appear in the other product. Depending on your NetDocuments settings, folders might automatically be created as well.
Upload documents
- Go to the main Documents tab or the contact or matter's Documents subtab.
- Select NetDocuments.
- Click Upload and select the file from your computer.
- Make any selections based on your NetDocuments Profile Attributes and then click Start Upload.
View documents
- Go to the main Documents tab or the contact or matter's Documents subtab.
- Select NetDocuments.
- Open a folder to find an uploaded document. You may need to refresh your page.
- When you click a document name to open it, the document will be downloaded to your computer.
- You can also find the same document in the same folder of your NetDocuments account.
- Optional: Click Add Time below a document's name to add a time entry for this document.
Delete documents
- Go to the main Documents tab or the contact or matter's Documents subtab.
- Select NetDocuments.
- Open a folder to find an uploaded document. You may need to refresh your page.
- Click Delete below the document's name.
Disconnect NetDocuments
- Go to Settings > Documents > Document Sources
- Click Configure NetDocuments.
- Click Unlink Account.
Uninstall NetDocuments
- Open the Start menu on your PC.
- Go to Settings > System > Apps & features.
- Select the app.
- Click Uninstall.
- Open Finder on your mac.
- Go to Applications.
- Drag the app to the Trash or right click the app and select Move to Trash.
- Go to Trash and click Empty.
- Click Empty Trash to confirm.
