Visualisations let you ask Clio Work to build interactive content from data and information across matters, such as dashboards, calculators, and diagrams, from a prompt. Describe what you need, and Clio Work builds it for you. Visualisations are versatile enough to allow you to work with all of your firm's operational data and text-based or content-based information such as legal documents and matter notes.
How to create a visualisation
- Open Clio Work.
- Optional: If related to a specific matter, select the matter.
- In your prompt, describe what you want to build. Name the type of output (for example, a dashboard, calculator, or diagram) and what it should include.
- Review the result.
- Continue the conversation with Vincent to refine the output.
Tips for better results
The quality of Vincent's output depends on how you frame your request. Writing clear, specific prompts with the right amount of context helps Vincent deliver a visualisation that gives you the insights you need. Below are some suggestions that you can work into your prompts.
- Say who it's for. For example, "for a client meeting" or "for a partner review."
- Say how to group the data. When the visualisation includes data, specify how it should be grouped, or ask for a dropdown where you can select different grouping (e.g., group "by lawyer" or "by practice group").
- Specify what is most important. For example, "highlight anything due within 14 days" or "the primary objective is to understand where we have unbilled time."
Examples by role and practice area
The following examples aim to provide you with an understanding of what is possible and how to describe what you need.
Build a firm performance visualisation
A managing partner at a growing firm is preparing for a quarterly partner meeting and wants to know how the firm is performing. Hours, billing, and collections are spread across separate reports, and she needs one view that shows how much time is being tracked and billed, and how much of it is being collected. She asks Clio Work to pull the numbers together in one place, with the option to compare this year to last and to look at individual employees.
Build me an interactive dashboard that shows the following information across all of my matters and the employees at the firm:
- monthly billable, non-billable, and untracked hours with the utilisation rate,
- fees billed versus unbilled and draft with the realisation rate, and
- collected versus uncollected amounts with the collection rate and outstanding balances.
Allow me to compare this year to last year by adding a toggle to switch between the two years. Also allow me to select a particular firm employee so that I can see the results per person as well as the results for the firm (across employees).
Settlement comparison calculator
Your client was injured in a rear-end collision, and you have an insurer's offer on the table along with the option of mediation or trial. You are meeting with them to discuss the offer and their options. You want to create a dashboard that helps them understand their options side-by-side along with your recommendations, so they can decide which is right for them.
For [this matter] build an interactive settlement comparison calculator that I can use in my meeting with my client. Use the information available in the documents, notes, and communications on the matter (including the insurer's offer letter, medical bills and lien notices, the expense records, and my notes from mediation preparation). The purpose of the dashboard is to allow my client to understand the three options available:
- Scenario A: accept the insurer's current offer.
- Scenario B: settle after mediation. Use currently available information to estimate the settlement.
- Scenario C: go to trial. Use currently available information to estimate the verdict amount.
For each scenario describe the timeline, associated legal fees, time and effort required from my client. The most important thing to present is the net amount they would receive in each scenario as well as an estimated date of when they'll receive it. Below that, show a step-by-step breakdown of how each scenario gets from the total recovery to their net compensation, and the timing and risk note for each. The purpose is to present this to my client so they can see the outcome of each option and choose the one best suited to their situation. Use plain language with no legal jargon, and keep the layout clean enough to share on screen.
Corporate ownership diagram
XYZ Capital Partners is acquiring ABC Holdings, a company with subsidiaries in other jurisdictions and a minority investor in one of them. Before the investment committee meets, the deal team asks Clio Work to turn the corporate records on the matter into a single diagram. Committee members who have never seen the structure can then see who owns what at a glance, and the team can spot anything the documents disagree on.
For the matter XYZ Capital Partners, create an interactive diagram showing the ownership structure and relationships between the entities in this matter.
The purpose is to present the diagram at the committee meeting so they understand the structure they are acquiring and can see where ownership is shared or unresolved before they approve the transaction. If any documents disagree about an ownership percentage, or if ownership of an entity can't be confirmed, mark it with a flag and explain the conflict instead of choosing one version.
Use the documents on this matter as your source, and any relevant notes and communications we have associated with the matter and contacts added to the matter. Use plain language with limited legal jargon.
