Dialpad Talk is a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) application that allows you to make phone calls and send SMS messages from any device connected to the internet. Clio integrates with Dialpad via the ion8 Call Connector, allowing you to make phone calls from Clio Manage through the Dialpad desktop or mobile applications, and via Dialpad’s Chrome extension. The integration also ensures that these calls, as well as calls made directly through the Dialpad desktop, web, or mobile app are automatically logged in Clio Manage along with the duration of the call. Finally, Dialpad SMS records will also be logged to Clio Manage.
Note: Before attempting to set up and use this integration, make sure that you fulfill the following requirements.
- You have a Dialpad Pro account or higher. Learn more about Dialpad's plans.
- You have an ion8 Connect account. This is the ion8 Admin Dashboard that allows you to connect services to the ion8 Call Connector.
- To set up the integration, you need to be a Company Admin on your Dialpad account, and be the Primary Subscriber or an Administrator for your Clio Manage Account.
Set up Dialpad in Clio
Firm administrators or the Primary subscriber can enable Dialpad for the entire firm's account in Clio Manage. Once enabled, each user on the account will need their own Dialpad license in order to have a dedicated phone number to use the integration.
Note: If you set up and used the Dialpad integration prior to June 17th, 2025, you will need to disconnect your integration and reconnect it. To disconnect the Dialpad integration.
- In Clio Manage, go to Settings > Apps > VoIP.
- Click Disconnect for the Dialpad integration.
Since Clio connects with Dialpad via the ion8 Call Connector, you need to connect both Clio and Dialpad with the ion8 Call Connector.
To connect Clio Manage and the ion8 Call Connector, follow these steps:
- In ion8 Connect, select the App Authorization subtab and select Dialpad.
- If you are not signed into your Dialpad account, a sign-in modal will appear. Enter your credentials or sign in using one of the third-party sign-in options.
- Click Allow to authorize the connection between Dialpad and ion8 Connect.
Dialpad is now successfully connected to ion8 Connect. You now have to connect ion8 Connect to Clio Manage. You can do that from your ion8 Connect account or from Clio Manage.
- In ion8 Connect, select the App Authorization subtab and select Clio Manage.
- Select your region, then click Next.
- If you are not signed into your Clio Manage account, a sign-in modal will appear. Enter your credentials and sign in.
- Click Allow access to authorize the connection between ion8 Connect and Clio Manage. Clio Manage is now successfully connected to ion8 Connect.
- In Clio Manage, go to App Integrations.
- Use the search bar to find ion8 Call Connector, then select the integration.
- Click Add to Clio.
- If you are not signed in to your ion8 Connect account, a sign-in modal will appear. Enter your credentials and sign in.
- Click Allow Access to grant ion8 Call Connector permission to access your Clio Manage account.
- Select dialpad as your telephony app, then click Continue. If you are not signed into your Dialpad account, a sign-in modal will appear. Enter your credentials or sign in using one of the third-party sign-in options.
- Click Allow to grant ion8 Call Connector permission to access your Dialpad account.
- Select your Clio account region, then click Continue.
- Wait for the Call Connector to configure and deploy (this may take a few minutes).
To connect the Dialpad integration to Clio Grow via the ion8 Call Connector.
- In ion8 Connect, navigate to App Authorization.
- Select Clio Grow.
- Click Allow Access and wait for authorization to complete.
Make phone calls using Dialpad
Once a firm administrator has enabled Dialpad for your account you can start making phone calls. You can make calls from the Dialpad desktop app, the Dialpad webapp, or the Dialpad mobile app. Refer to Dialpad’s Help Center to learn more.
Calls made using Dialpad are automatically logged in Clio Manage if the phone is associated with a contact in Clio Manage. Learn how phone calls made via Dialpad are logged in Clio Manage.
View phone logs
After an inbound or outbound phone call takes place over a Dialpad line (whether through Clio Manage or through the Dialpad desktop, web, or mobile app), Clio Manage will automatically create a phone log. If the contact only has one active matter in Clio Manage, the phone log will be linked to that matter. If a contact has multiple active matters, you will need to manually link the appropriate matter to the phone log. If there is more than one contact with the same phone number, the contact with the most recently created phone number will be linked.
- Go to Communications > Logs.
- Select the Phone tab.
- Click on a phone log entry to view it.
- Optional: You can also edit, print, or delete the log using the relevant icons on the entry, or add or edit a time entry.
- Go to Contacts.
- Select the name of the relevant contact.
- Select the Communications subtab, then the Phone filter.
- Optional: Use the date range fields and/or click Filters to view a filtered list of phone logs.
Disconnect Dialpad in Clio
Firm administrators can disconnect the Dialpad and Clio integration in the settings page.
- Go to App Integrations > My integrations.
- In the ion8 Call Connector card, click Remove access.
