Create Activities, Events, Notes, and Tasks using Clio's AI features

You can ask Clio to quickly create activities, single calendar events, tasks, and notes for any matter, regardless of where you are working in the web app. In the top right, click the Clio icon to open the panel to chat with Clio, then use natural language to describe what you want Clio to do. You can also access this prompt box at the top of the Today page.

This article provides suggested prompts for creating these.

Important: This article describes unified Clio. Unified Clio is available to firms in stages, so your account may still use the old experience. To switch to the old experience, open the user menu. Then select Switch to the old experience. Your data and settings are the same in both experiences.

Create time entries and expenses

Quickly create billable time entries and expenses by providing details such as duration, cost, and matter information. First, in the top right, click the Clio icon in your header bar to open the Clio prompt panel. You can also type your question or request in the prompt box at the top of the Today page.

Tip: Clio's AI can suggest that you create time entries via the Suggested actions widget on a matter dashboard.

  • Create time entry example: Create a time entry for 45 minutes on the Smith Matter with the description "Drafting correspondence".
  • Create expense entry example: Create an expense entry for $50 for filing fees on the Jones case today.

If you do not provide sufficient details, Clio may automatically assign a logical option, such as using your billing rate, or it may ask follow-up questions, such as asking about which date to use. When Clio has all the details, you can provide your approval once for the single request, approve that Clio takes action anytime you prompt in the particular conversation, or reject it to start again.

Schedule single calendar events

Clio's AI can help you organize your schedule by creating new events on your Clio Calendar. Quickly create events by providing details such as the time, date, and participants. First, in the top right, click the Clio icon in your header bar to open the Clio prompt panel. You can also type your question or request in the prompt box at the top of the Today page.

Note: To automatically extract multiple deadlines and events from a court document, you can use the AI Scheduling feature, instead of manually creating a single event via the Clio prompt panel.

  • Create event example: Create a 1-hour event tomorrow at 2 p.m. with [Client Name] for a case review.

If you do not provide sufficient details, Clio may automatically assign a logical option, such as creating an event with the client on the matter if you reference the matter, or it may ask follow-up questions, such as asking about about the event's time. When Clio has all the details, you can provide your approval once for the single request, approve that Clio takes action anytime you prompt in the particular conversation, or reject it to start again.

Create tasks and notes

You can use Clio's AI to create tasks for yourself or your team and to quickly record and organize notes linked directly to a matter or contact. First, in the top right, click the Clio icon in your header bar to open the Clio prompt panel. You can also type your question or request in the prompt box at the top of the Today page.

Create tasks

  • Create task example: Create a high-priority task named Settlement offer draft review for [Client Name] due on October 9th.

Create notes

  • Create note example: Create a matter note for [Matter Name], saying, “Had a conversation with the client on October 3, 2024, regarding the evidence for allegations of neglect.”

If you do not provide sufficient details, Clio may automatically assign a logical option, or if unsure, will ask follow-up questions. When Clio has all the details, you can provide your approval once for the single request, approve that Clio takes action anytime you prompt in the particular conversation, or reject it to start again.
