AI features in Clio helps you transform routine work into completed actions, helping you stay on target with deadlines, get paid faster, and allowing you and your team to focus on billable work.
Data Security and Compliance
Clio's continued commitment to your security and firm privacy means that you can feel confident that:
- Your data is protected: Clio applies the same robust security, privacy, and compliance standards across all its products and features, including AI features.
- Your information stays private: AI features in Clio adhere to your existing Clio Manage permissions and will not surface data or matter details from files or matters you are not authorized to access. Your data is never used to train external AI models. Refer to Clio’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for more information.
- Your data stays in your region: Depending on where your firm is located, AI features in Clio may process your queries on servers located outside your home jurisdiction. After your request is processed, any resulting data remains securely stored within your region, in line with Clio's standard data handling practices
You are responsible for your firm's compliance. Laws and regulations about AI and data handling vary from region to region, and you are responsible for ensuring your firm's use of AI features aligns with your local regulatory and compliance requirements. Consult with your internal compliance team or legal counsel before using AI features, especially if your firm has specific data residency or HIPAA obligations.
AI features in Clio
Because AI features in Clio are designed to assist in your regular workflows, they are integrated in various areas in Clio.
AI launchpad
Access the most impactful AI workflows from any page in Clio Manage by clicking the diamond icon in your top bar. From this launchpad you can
- schedule events from documents,
- automate bills,
- analyze your documents,
- ask questions about matters and firm operations,
- create time entries, expenses, tasks, and events,
- catch up on a matter, and
- get writing assistance for emails and other documents.
Personal Dashboard
Clio's AI provides you with a summary of your top priorities in your Personal Dashboard (or home page). These suggestions remind you of upcoming calendar events or tasks and provides the necessary context for you to understand at a glance what your day and week may look like. In addition, you may see suggested research topics (for those with Clio Work), suggested invoices to generate, and information about status updates or other relevant info.
AI Actions cards in matters
While viewing a matter, the AI Actions card will surface suggested actions relevant to the matter that you can take to keep the matter moving forward. Clio's AI can suggest actions like
- reviewing events that it captured from documents,
- drafting communications based on your recent matter activity,
- alerting you to new bills that it generated and are ready for your approval, and
- scheduling events based on dates extracted from documents.
Other AI features
Other ways that you can leverage AI features in Clio include
- analyzing your legal documents using the Document Analyzer,
- asking questions about matters and firm operations, and
- creating tasks, adding billable time, or getting help with drafting document or communications via chat.
View AI event log
The AI Event Log in your firm's Settings provides a record of your AI actions in Clio over the last 90 days, helping your firm meet compliance standards.
- In Clio Manage, click Settings > Manage AI Event Log to access a list of records that include the Timestamp, the User on behalf of whom the AI acted, and the Event Description.
- Optional: Under Details, click View for database IDs, user details, and IP address information.
