Manage User Notifications

In Clio Manage, you can choose which email, in-app, and mobile app notifications you receive for calendar events, matters, tasks, messages, and other activity. Focused notifications keep important case updates in front of you with less noise. Your choices apply to your own user, so each person at the firm sets their own preferences.

Turn notifications on or off

Notification preferences are personal settings in Manage settings. If your account uses the old Clio experience, go to Settings > Notifications instead.

  1. Go to the user menu (your avatar, top right) > Manage settings > Notifications.
  2. Click or scroll to the category you want to change.
  3. Turn each setting on or off.

Tip: Keep calendar, matter, and task notifications turned on for matters with court deadlines. Prompt alerts about changed events, reassigned tasks, and low trust balances support deadline control and help your firm act before a problem reaches the client.

Understand notification categories

Each category controls notifications for one area of Clio Manage. A few email notifications stay on permanently, as noted below.

Calendar

When another firm user adds, updates, or deletes an event on your calendar, choose whether to receive in-app notifications, mobile app notifications, or both.

Clio for Co-Counsel

When your co-counsel uploads a new document through the Clio for Co-Counsel portal, turn the email notification for the upload on or off.

Document eSignatures

After a document is signed and submitted, you receive an email notification automatically. You can also turn on in-app notifications. If you use the Clio mobile app, you can turn on mobile app notifications too.

Matters

For matters you subscribe to, choose in-app notifications, mobile app notifications, or both. Matter notifications cover these events: another firm user adds you as a subscriber, the matter status changes, the matter is deleted, the matter reaches its budget threshold or its budget changes, and the matter trust balance falls below the specified threshold.

Note: Email notifications are always on for three matter events: a matter budget update, a matter crossing its budget threshold, and matter trust funds falling below the specified threshold. These three email settings stay on permanently.

Notes

Choose in-app notifications, mobile app notifications, or both for these events: another user subscribes you to a note, a note you subscribe to is updated, and a note you subscribe to is deleted.

Client portal messages

For Clio for Clients events, choose email notifications, in-app badge notifications, or both. Turn email notifications on or off for new messages and new documents sent through Clio for Clients. You can also choose in-app notifications for messages from clients and other firm members, and for messages sent when firm members share bills, calendar events, and documents. You can turn off all in-app notifications for Clio for Clients at once.

Phone logs

Choose in-app notifications, mobile app notifications, or both for these events: another user subscribes you to a phone log, a phone log you subscribe to is updated, and a phone log you subscribe to is deleted.

Internal messages

When you receive a new internal message, a badge icon marks the Communications tab and the Internal messages subtab on the matter. The badge clears when you open the unread message thread. You can also turn on email notifications for internal messages sent to you.

Text messages

When a new text arrives in the Clio mobile app, you receive a push notification. Text push notifications are on by default, and you can turn them off.

Tasks

Email notifications cover tasks you assign to others, and tasks and task lists assigned to you. Completing your own task, or a task becoming overdue, sends no notification. In-app reminders arrive at your next sign-in. With every setting turned on, you receive notifications when a task or task list is assigned to you, and when someone else updates, deletes, or completes one of your assigned tasks.

Integrations

If you use Clio's Outlook add-in, choose whether to receive in-app notifications when an email log fails to file.

Other

When you download a comma-separated values (CSV) export of your matters, an in-app banner provides the download link. You can also turn on email delivery of the link.
