Legal Pad is a basic built-in document editor in Clio Work. Depending on what you are working during a conversation with Vincent, Vincent may create a Legal Pad document for you in an editable panel to the right of your conversation. In Legal Pad, you can revise the document, apply formatting, and save it directly to Clio Manage without leaving Clio Work.

Open a response in Legal Pad
Note: Legal Pad remains part of your conversation. You can close the panel and reopen it again when you need to review it.
- Locate the Vincent response you want to edit in your conversation.
- In the top right corner, select the results (list) icon, then click the relevant Legal Pad line item.
Edit and format your document
You can type directly in the title or document body to add, revise, or remove text. For the body of the document, you have access to the following formatting options:
- Bold: Apply bold formatting to selected text.
- Italic: Apply italic formatting to selected text.
- Strikethrough: Apply strikethrough formatting to selected text.
- Bulleted list: Format selected text as an unordered list.
- Numbered list: Format selected text as an ordered list.
Note: While viewing a Legal Pad document, you can click Open in Editor for more formatting and editing options. Refer to Document Editor for more information
Save and export your document
There are several different ways to retain a copy of a Legal Pad document. To start, while viewing the Legal Pad, select the download icon. You then have several options.
Download
- Download .docx: Export the document as a Microsoft Word file.
- Download PDF: Export the document as a PDF file.
Save to Manage
- Select Save to Manage to open the modal where you can enter a file name (the document title is pre-populated by default) and select a destination folder. If you save the file in the root folder of a the matter's Documents, Vincent will create a folder called Vincent Generated Content inside the matter documents to help you stay organized. Subsequent Legal Pad documents you save to Clio Manage will also be saved to this folder.
Copy
- Select Copy to copy the content to your clipboard. You can then paste the content wherever you need to work with it next.
Continue refining with Vincent
Legal Pad stays open while you continue the conversation. You can refine your document in two ways.
Revise the full document
Use the Ask a follow-up question text box at the bottom of the conversation to ask Vincent to revise, expand, or reframe the content. Legal Pad updates with the new response.
Revise a selection
- Highlight the text you want to revise in Legal Pad.
- Select Revise selection from the floating action that appears.
- In the text box, enter your revision instruction (e.g., Make this more concise or Rewrite this in plain language).
- Submit the instruction. Vincent revises the selected text based on your input.
Navigate Legal Pad versions
Vincent retains previous versions of your document within the conversation. Use the previous and next arrows at the top of the Legal Pad panel to move between versions.
