Legal Pad is a built-in document editor in Clio Work. When you select Edit in Legal Pad on any Vincent response, the content opens in an editable panel alongside your conversation. You can revise the document, apply formatting, and save it directly to Clio Manage without leaving Clio Work.

Open a response in Legal Pad
- Locate the Vincent response you want to edit in your conversation.
- Select the Edit in Legal Pad icon in the response footer. Legal Pad opens as a panel on the right side of the conversation.
Note: Legal Pad remains part of your conversation. You can close the panel and reopen it by selecting the Edit in Legal Pad icon again without losing your work.
Edit and format your document
The Legal Pad toolbar provides the following formatting options:
- Bold
Apply bold formatting to selected text.
- Italic
Apply italic formatting to selected text.
- Strikethrough
Apply strikethrough formatting to selected text.
- Bulleted list
Format selected text as an unordered list.
- Numbered list
Format selected text as an ordered list.
You can also type directly in the content area to add, revise, or remove text. Formatting carried over from Vincent's response, including headings, bold text, and numbered lists, is preserved when the document opens in Legal Pad.
Save and export your document
Select the download icon in the top right of the Legal Pad panel to access the following options.
- Save to Manage
Opens the Save to Manage modal. Enter a file name (the document title is pre-populated by default) and select a destination folder within the associated matter. Documents save as a .docx file. Vincent saves documents to a folder called Vincent Generated Content within the matter in Clio Manage. Select Save to confirm.
- Copy
Copy the full document content to your clipboard.
View version history
Each time you save a Legal Pad document to Clio Manage, a version is recorded. To view version history, open the document in Clio Manage from the Vincent Generated Content folder and select the Details tab in the right-side panel. Each version shows the version number, upload date and time, and the name of the user who uploaded it.
Re-analyze a saved document
Saved Legal Pad documents can be sent back to Vincent for further analysis. Open the document in Clio Manage and select Analyze in Vincent in the document header to start a new analysis conversation with that document already loaded.
Continue refining with Vincent
Legal Pad stays open while you continue the conversation. You can use the text box at the bottom of the conversation to ask Vincent to revise, expand, or reframe the content, then update Legal Pad with the new response.
