Void or Delete a Reconciliation

In Clio, you can void a completed reconciliation or delete one that is still in progress. Voiding a completed reconciliation unlocks the period, allowing you to correct it and reconcile again. Deleting an in-progress reconciliation discards it, allowing you to start over.

Important: Voiding and deleting reconciliations require administrator permissions, as does reconciling.

Note: If your firm uses Accounting, void your reconciliations in Accounting instead. See Operating and Trust Reconciliation.

Void a completed reconciliation

Completed reconciliations lock to protect the integrity of your trust account. To correct a previously reconciled period, such as by editing or deleting a transaction, you will need to void the reconciliation and then reconcile the period again.

Important: Void newer reconciliations first. Each reconciliation uses the previous reconciliation's end date and end balance as its own start date and start balance, so the periods are chained together. A reconciliation can be voided only when no newer reconciliation, completed or in progress, exists for the same bank account.

  1. Go to Accounts.
  2. Click the relevant trust account name.
  3. Select the Reconciliations subtab.
  4. Click the down arrow next to View Report for the relevant reconciliation.
  5. Select Void Reconciliation.
  6. Correct the underlying transactions in the unlocked period.
  7. Reconcile the period again.

Delete an in-progress reconciliation

You can delete an in-progress reconciliation to discard it and start over, for example, if you entered the wrong start or end balance. You can delete it from the list of reconciliations or from the reconciliation itself.

Tip: To fix only the start and end dates or balances, keep the reconciliation. Click Edit on the reconciliation page to correct them.
