The Audit Log gives firm admins a complete record of activity across your Clio account, allowing you to stay compliant and audit-ready with records for external auditors when needed.
Note: This feature is available to select plans. Learn more about your plan's features. If you need to upgrade your firm’s plan, ask a firm administrator.
View the Audit Log list
To view a list of every logged event across your firm:
- Click Settings > Audit Log or click Admin Console > Audit Log.
In the Audit Log, each row represents a single event, with the most recent activity at the top.
- Event: Type of action taken (for example, Created or Updated) and the affected record type (for example, the matter, calendar entry, or document).
- Actor: Who performed the action, for example, the firm user, or an AI agent acting on a person's behalf (see AI-attributed actions below).
- Product: Where the action took place.
- Time: Date and time of the event.
Tip: Use the search bar and Filters to find specific events. You can also sort by certain columns, and page through results if your firm has a high volume of activity.
View event details
Click any row to open the full details for that event, including the actor's name, email, and user type; a link to the affected record; and a changes section showing a log of the changes (before and after the event), and more.
Note: Sensitive fields like passwords, tokens, and SSNs are automatically redacted and will not display in the Audit Log.
AI-attributed actions
Some actions in your firm may be performed by an AI agent rather than a person directly, for example, when Clio's AI features complete a task on a user's behalf. These events are logged with the AI agent identified as the actor, along with the person the action was performed on behalf of, so you always know both what acted and who it was acting for.
When an event was performed by an AI agent, the detail view also includes an AI Reasoning section. For example, an AI-attributed update to a case description might explain that a new court filing added a claim that wasn’t yet reflected in the matter’s description, and that the description was updated with no other fields updated.
Export the Audit Log
You can export the full Audit Log to a CSV file—useful for sharing records with external auditors or reviewing activity outside of Clio.
- From the Audit Log page, click Export CSV.
- Choose your date range (if applicable).
- Click Export CSV.
