In Clio Manage, you can connect a Google or Microsoft email address to display your address as the sender. Clients receive bills, secure messages, and event invitations from an address they recognize rather than from notifications@clio.com. Copies of sent emails save to the Sent folder of your email account, and bounce notifications arrive in your inbox.
Note: This connection sets the sender address for emails sent from Clio Manage. To file client email to matters, connect your inbox to automated email filing.
Understand which emails send from your address
Once your email address is connected, the following emails sent from Clio Manage use your address as the sender.
- Bill emails, including Clio Payments bill sharing
- Trust request, outstanding balance, and bill reminder emails
- Emails sent with Email with Manage template
- Calendar event invitations
- Clio for Clients messages
- Task notifications
- User invitation emails
Note: Clio for Clients messages, trust request emails, Clio for Co-Counsel emails, and user invitation emails always send from a Clio address, such as notifications@clio.com.
Connect your email address
Each firm user connects their own email address, and the connection applies to emails sent from Clio Manage. You can connect a Google or Microsoft address, one at a time. Connecting a new provider will replace the first email address.
- Go to Settings > Apps.
- Click the Google tab.
- Under Email integrations, click Sign in with Google.
- Select your Google account.
- Confirm the Send email on your behalf checkbox is selected.
- Click Continue.
The Send emails from your own email address status changes to Enabled, and Sender email lists your address.
Note: Use the same Microsoft account for this connection and for Clio Outlook Add-in, so emails file to the correct matters.
- Go to Settings > Apps.
- Click the Microsoft tab.
- Under Email integrations, click Connect.
- Sign in to your Microsoft account.
- Select the permission to send email on your behalf.
- Click Accept.
Important: If your email address uses a custom domain, set up Sender Policy Framework (SPF) and DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) for that domain. Email providers such as Google block messages from senders that fail these checks or have a high rate of spam complaints. Contact your IT team or email provider to configure SPF and DKIM.
Disconnect your email address
Disconnecting returns the sender address for emails sent from Clio Manage to notifications@clio.com. Email signatures and Email with Manage template require a connected address. For Microsoft, you can also turn off Send emails from your own email address to stop sending from your address while your account stays connected.
- Go to Settings > Apps.
- Click the Google or Microsoft tab.
- Under Email integrations, click Disconnect.
