Insights & benchmarking allows you to see how your firm’s performance compares with similar firms. The page shows key metrics like utilization, realization, and collection rates next to a peer average, so you can spot where your firm is ahead and where it may need attention. Insights & benchmarking are available to users with Reporting permissions.
Note: Insights & benchmarking is available to eligible Clio Manage accounts in the United States. You may not have access to this feature if your firm opted out of having its data anonymized and aggregated, if there are not sufficient firm characteristically similar to your firm to allow for meaningful comparison, or if you have not had your Clio account for more than 6 months.
Reporting areas
To visit Insights & benchmarking, click Reports, then click the Insights & benchmarking tab. The page shows several widgets available on various reporting areas that firms may want insights on. Each widget is a summary showing your firm’s average and, if Peer benchmark is toggled on, how your firm compares with others. Depending on the widget you may be able to select different time periods for your results. You can organize the page to show the widgets you care about most.
| Widget | Description |
|---|---|
| Revenue per responsible attorney | The money your firm collected, divided by the attorneys responsible for the matters that produced it. |
| Billable hours per responsible attorney | The hours of client-billable work each responsible attorney logged in the period. |
| Utilization rate | The share of each attorney’s available working time that goes to billable work. |
| Realization rate | How much of the work you did made it onto an invoice. |
| Collection rate | The share of the money you invoiced that reached your bank account. |
| Billable hourly rate per attorney | The average hourly rate your attorneys actually invoiced. |
| Billable hourly rate per non-attorney | The average hourly rate invoiced for paralegals, law clerks, and other non-attorney timekeepers. |
| Total lockup days | The average number of days revenue stays locked up as unbilled work plus unpaid bills before it becomes cash. Fewer days is better. |
| Lockup — logged, unbilled | The average number of days worked time waits before it is billed. Fewer days means work is invoiced faster. |
| Collection lockup — billed, unpaid | The average number of days a bill stays unpaid after it is issued. Fewer days means clients pay faster. |
