Custom fields are additional fields of information that you may need to capture for contact or matter that Clio does not automatically capture during contact and matter creation. Custom field sets are a collection of individual custom fields that are grouped together. Field sets can be added to a contact or matter for a specific practice area.
Create custom fields in Clio Manage
You can create individual custom fields for matters and contacts. When creating a custom field, you can set it as a default field and select whether it is required. Default custom fields apply to all contact and matter forms and can be left blank, while your required fields need to be filled and cannot be left blank.
- Go to Settings > Custom Fields.
- Select Matter Custom Fields or Contact Custom Fields.
- Select Individual Fields.
- Click Add.
- Complete the custom field details. The Name field is limited to 32 characters.
- Click Save.
Create custom field sets in Clio Manage
After creating individual custom fields, you can add them to a field set. When creating a field set, you can select to make the field set a default set. A default field set will appear on all contacts or matters.
- Go to Settings > Custom Fields.
- Select Matter Custom Fields or Contact Custom Fields.
- Select Field Sets.
- Click Add.
- Complete the details and add existing individual custom fields.
- Click Save.
Create custom fields in Clio Grow
- Go to Settings > Custom fields.
- Click New field next to either Contact custom fields or Matter custom fields.
- Add the field name and field type.
- Optional: Check the box for Add to all new contacts or Add to all new matters. If checked, this custom field will automatically be added to the contact and/or matter forms when creating new contacts and/or matters.
- Click Create custom field.
