In Clio Manage and Clio Grow, tags help you categorize, organize, and group contacts, making it easier to find and differentiate between them. For example, a "Family Physician" tag can indicate a contact's profession, while a ""Litigation" tag can help you organize and filter your matters by case type.
Once created tags are available visible across both contacts and matters and are visible in your contact and matter views. You can also filter by tags to help you quickly view a particular subset of your contacts or matters.
Create, edit, and delete tags in Clio Manage
Tags in Clio Manage can help you identify and search for contacts and/or matters more efficiently. You can create, edit, and delete tags from the main Contacts or Matters pages or while creating or editing a contact or matter.
Note: Administrators can create and manage contact tags. Once created, any user can apply tags to contacts.
- Go to Contacts or Matters.
- In the upper right corner, click Manage tags.
- Under Create new tag, click the colour dot to open the colour picker, then select a colour.
- Enter a name for your new tag.
- Click Create tag.
- Click Done to close the Tag settings modal.
You can also create a new tag while you are creating a new contact, editing an existing contact, creating a new matter, or editing an existing matter
- Create a new contact/matter or edit an existing contact/matter.
- For the contact form, scroll to the Tags section. For the matter form, scroll to the Matter details section.
- Click Manage tags.
- Under Create new tag, click the current color to open the color picker, then select a color.
- Enter a name for your new tag.
- Click Create tag.
- Click Done to close the Tag settings modal.
Note: Editing a tag's color and/or name will also change the color and/or name on any contacts and matters where the tag is applied.
- Go to Contacts or Matters.
- In the upper right corner, click Manage tags.
- Under Manage existing tags, click the pencil icon next to a tag.
- Select a new color and/or enter a new name.
- Click Save.
- Click Done to close the Tag settings modal.
You can also edit a tag while you are creating a new contact/matter or editing an existing contact/matter. While creating a new contact or editing an existing contact, scroll to the Tags section, or while creating a new matter or editing an existing matter, scroll to the Matter details section. Click Manage tags. Under Manage existing tags, click the pencil icon next to a tag to edit it.
Note: Deleting a tag will remove it from any contacts and matters where the tag is applied.
- Go to Contacts or Matters.
- In the upper right corner, click Manage tags.
- Under Manage existing tags, click the trash can icon next to a tag.
- Click Confirm to delete the tag.
- Click Done to close the Tag settings modal.
Apply or remove tags in Clio Manage
After creating tags in Clio Manage, you can apply them to contacts and matters or remove them as needed. Tags applied to Contacts or Matters will appear in the main Contacts or Matters pages (while viewing these tables) and in the contact or matter’s Dashboards.
Note: Removing a tag from a contact or matter will not delete the tag.
- Create/edit a contact/matter.
- Scroll to the Tags section (while creating/editing a contact) or to the Matter details section (while creating/editing a matter).
- Under Tags, search for a tag and select it to add it.
- You can apply up to 50 tags to a single contact.
- Click Save contact or Save matter.
- Create/edit a contact/matter.
- Scroll to the Tags section (while creating/editing a contact) or to the Matter details section (while creating/editing a matter).
- Click the X next to the tag you want to remove.
- Click Save contact or Save matter.
Create, edit, and delete tags in Clio Grow
Tags in Clio Grow help you categorize and locate contacts. For example, a "Witness" tag can help you identify key individuals, or a "Economic hardship" tag to mark clients needing special payment considerations. You can create tags from the Settings page or directly from a contact.
Note: Administrators can create and manage contact tags. Once created, any user can apply tags to contacts.
- Go to Settings > Contacts > Tags.
- Click New Tag.
- Name the tag and click the blue colour square to change the tag’s colour.
- Click Create Tag.
- Go to Settings > Contacts > Tags.
- Click Edit.
- Click the colour square to change the colour and/or update the tag name.
- Click Update Tag.
- Go to Settings > Contacts > Tags.
- Click Delete.
- Select OK.
Apply or remove contact tags in Clio Grow
After creating tags in Clio Grow, you can apply tags to your contacts or matters, or you can remove existing tags from contacts or matters. Tags are visible when viewing the table of Contacts or Matters and from an individual matter or contact page.
- Go to Contacts or Matters and select your contact or matter. You can also use the search bar to find a contact or matter.
- Under Contact Details or under Matter Details, find the line called Tags.
- Click Edit Tags.
- Search for the pre-created tags.
- Click Done.
Note: Removing a tag will remove it from the contact and will not delete the tag itself.
- Go to Contacts or Matters and select your contact or matter. You can also use the search bar to find a contact or matter.
- Under Contact Details, find the line called Tags.
- Click Edit Tags.
- Click the X next to the tag’s name.
- Click Done.
