When you upload a document to Clio Work, Vincent reads the content and suggests the most relevant actions for that specific file. The suggestions are context-aware, meaning a service agreement produces different tasks than a complaint, an email chain, or a deposition transcript. Select the tasks most relevant to your matter, and Vincent processes each one.
Note: Clio Work is designed to support the substantive practice of law, not replace professional judgment. All output generated by Vincent AI requires final review and due diligence by a qualified legal professional.
Upload a document and get suggestions
There are three ways you can upload a document and receive suggestions from Vincent. Choose the path that fits your current workflow.
From the Vincent workspace
- In Clio Work, click Vincent in the left navigation.
- Select the + icon in the text box.
- Choose your document source:
- Add from Manage: select files previously uploaded to Clio Manage
- File Upload: browse and select files from your computer
- Folder Upload: upload an entire folder from your computer
- Upload from Google Drive: select files from a connected Google Drive account
- Upload from NetDocuments: select files from a connected NetDocuments account
- Upload from SharePoint: select files from a connected SharePoint account
- Select your file. Vincent confirms the upload, displays a one-line summary of the document content, and generates suggested tasks.
Note: For a full list of supported file types and size limits, see Supported File Types in Clio Work.
From Clio Manage: document upload
Use this path when you are uploading a new document directly into Clio Manage and want to analyse it in Vincent immediately.
- In Clio Manage, click Documents, or navigate to the Documents subtab of a specific matter.
- Upload your file. When the upload completes, the Upload successful modal appears.
- Select from the available workflow shortcuts:
- Analyse: receive suggestions based on your document's content
- Compare: build a table summarising key differences across multiple documents
- Summarise: generate a summary of your document
- Select the relevant Start button to open the workflow in Vincent with your document already loaded.
Note: Select Try more Vincent AI workflows in the modal to access the full workflow panel in Clio Work.
From a matter in Clio Manage
Use this path when you are working in a matter and want to analyse an existing document without leaving Clio Manage. See Use Clio Work With Clio Manage for full guidance on this access path.
Review Vincent's suggestions
After uploading, Vincent generates tasks specific to your document's content.
- Select individual tasks using the checkboxes. Selected tasks are highlighted in blue.
- Select All to select every suggested task at once
- Select None to clear your selections
- Type a custom instruction in the text box if none of the suggestions match your needs
Note: Agentic Mode is on by default. Vincent plans and executes each selected task autonomously. To guide each step manually, select the + icon and toggle Agentic Mode off before submitting.
Start the analysis
- Review your selected tasks.
- Select the arrow to submit.
- Vincent processes each selected task and returns results in the conversation view.
Continue the conversation
After Vincent returns its initial results, you can continue working in the same conversation.
- Type follow-up questions or instructions in the text box at the bottom of the conversation
- Select any suggested follow-up prompts Vincent provides using the checkboxes
- Add additional documents at any point using the + icon
Note: In long conversations, Vincent's responses may become less precise. See Improve Vincent's Response Quality for guidance on getting the best results from longer sessions.
