Document Editor

The Document Editor is a full-featured, web-based document editor built into Clio Work. It gives you a place to draft, format, and finalise legal documents without leaving Clio, using Vincent's AI assistance alongside your own editing. This article covers how to open a document, use the editing tools, and work with Vincent inside the Document Editor.

Open existing documents

  1. In the left navigation, select Draft.
  2. Search for a file, then double click it to open.

Create new documents

From Editor From Vincent
  1. In the left navigation, select Editor.
  2. Select + New document.
  3. Select the matter that the document pertains to and enter a file name.
  4. Click Create.

Once your document is open, you create the document yourself, or you can prompt Vincent to create an initial draft using the connected matter's context. Provide the description of the content or document you need using the conversation panel with Vincent and then review and edit the draft to suit your needs.

Edit documents

The Document Editor opens with your document on the left and Vincent on the right. You can prompt Vincent to work directly on the open document to review and summarise the document or selected clauses, or rewrite text according to your instructions. Toggle between Direct Edits or Tracked Changes to specify how you want Vincent to edit the document.

You can also make specific edits right in the Document Editor and apply formatting, add tables, edit the page layout, and more, the same way you would for any text editor.

Your document auto-saves to the matter's document management as you work, with version history retained. To save a copy locally, select File, then Download As, and choose a format.

Note: PDF files opened in the Document Editor offer a reduced toolbar with options applicable to PDF files (File, Home, Comment, Review, and View).
