With Clio Manage, you can build your firm’s reputation by requesting that clients review your firm. Reviews contribute to a stronger online presence, higher search rankings, and a steady stream of new leads. You can request reviews via text or email directly from Clio Manage, either one at a time from a contact or matter, or automatically when a matter is closed. Sent requests are logged so you have an accurate record of when each request was sent and which clients have already provided their reviews.
Request client review
You can initiate the client review request from a contact’s page or a matter’s page in Clio Manage.
- Go to Contacts, then select the contact from whom you want to request a review.
- In the Contact information card, click Request review.
- Fill in the Request review modal.
- Select the notification method (email or text message if text messaging is enabled).

Select the relevant contact information (if the contact has more than one phone number or email address).
Note: Only phone numbers that are marked as textable will be available for selection. Learn how to mark phone numbers as textable. - Select an email template (if using the email notification method). A default template is available.
- Optional: Make any necessary changes to the notification message.
- Optional: You can choose to to send regular review request reminders to the contact by checking the box for Automatically send reminders every 3 days (up to 2 reminders total).
- Optional: Select a matter to file the review request to.
- Click Send text message / Send email.
Once you initiate the request, the contact’s information on their contact page will be updated to show when you sent the client review request. Logs of your client review requests will also be logged in the firm’s communications logs and in a contact’s communications subtab.
- Go to Matters, then select the matter you want to request a review for.

In the matter’s dashboard, click Request review for any of the matter’s contacts or related contacts.
Note: The option to request a review will be absent if the contact does not have a valid email or phone number. - Fill in the Request review modal.

- Optional: The matter you requested the review from will be preselected in the Find a matter field, but you can update the matter
- Click Send text message / Send email.
- View the status of the request on the Matter page and find automated logs in the main Communications tab, or the Communications subtab of the matter and contact.
Automate review requests
You can set up your Clio account to send review requests automatically when you close a matter in Clio Manage.
Set up automatic review requests
You can set up a trigger that automatically sends a client review request when you close a matter. Automatic review requests are scoped by practice area, so you can select which practice areas, set in the matter details, you want to include in the automation.
- In Clio Grow, go to Settings > Reputation.
- In the Automatic review requests card, click Start setup.
- Under Practice areas to target, use the checkboxes to select the practice areas you want to include. You can use the arrows to expand the section and select individual subcategories within the parent practice area, or click the parent Practice areas to target checkbox to select all.

Toggle Send on matter close to on.
Note: At least one practice area needs to be selected to switch the toggle on. - Click Save and activate.
Edit practice areas for automatic review requests
To change which practice areas trigger automatic requests, turn off automation first.
- In Clio Grow, go to Settings > Reputation.
- In the Automatic review requests card, set the Send on matter close toggle to off.
- Click Edit in the Practice areas to target section.
- Use the checkboxes to update your practice area selections.
- Click Save.
- Toggle Send on matter close to on.
Turn off automatic review requests
You can turn off automation at any time. Your practice area selections are kept, so you can turn automation back on later without redoing setup.
- In Clio Grow, go to Settings > Reputation.
- In the Automatic review requests card, set the Send on matter close toggle to off.
Exclude individual from receiving automated review requests
You can exclude individual contacts from receiving automatic review requests from their matter or contact page in Clio Manage.
- In Clio Manage, navigate to the main Contacts page.
- Select the relevant contact to open the contact details.
- In Contact information, click the Sends on matter close option to open the menu and select Exclude from requests.
- In Clio Manage, navigate to the main Matters page.
- Select the relevant matter to open the matter dashboard.
- In the Contacts card, click the Sends on matter close option to open the menu and select Exclude from requests.
Preview automatic review request messages
You can preview the text and email messages clients receive before activating automation, and again at any time after.
- In Clio Grow, go to Settings > Reputation.
- Scroll to the Preview section.
- Click any tab (Text message, Email, Text message follow-up, Email follow-up) to see that message format.
