Clio Launcher is a tool that lets you view and edit your Clio Manage documents in the software of your choice. You can then upload the changes back to Clio Manage. 

Tip: Clio offers a virtual file drive called Clio Drive that is used to access, create, and edit documents right from your desktop. Any changes made on your desktop are immediately mirrored in Clio Manage. Learn more here.

Install Clio Launcher

Clio Launcher is part of the Clio desktop app. You will need to install the Clio desktop app on each computer that you want to use Clio Launcher on. Once installed, it will run in the background and will be available when you want to open a document from Clio.

Important: The Clio desktop app must meet a minimum version requirement to use Clio Launcher. Regular updates ensure access to new features, security enhancements and bug fixes. While updates are typically monthly, additional updates may be needed for security or compliance. Keeping your app up to date ensures Clio Launcher functions properly and meets industry standards.

Windows Mac
  1. Go to Documents.
  2. Click Desktop access and select Install for Windows.
  3. Follow your computer’s directions to install the package.
  4. Once installed, open the Clio desktop app from the desktop icon or by clicking the Clio icon in the task bar on the bottom right of your desktop screen.
  5. Choose the region associated with your account and enter your Clio Manage credentials.
  6. Click Allow Access.

 

Access documents in Clio Launcher

Once Clio Launcher is installed, you can view documents in your software of choice by clicking the blue arrow icon next to the document’s name in Clio Manage. When you save your edits, the changes will save to Clio Manage as well.

  1. Go to the main Documents tab or the Documents subtab for a contact or matter.
  2. Click the blue arrow icon next to a document’s name.
  3. Open the Clio desktop app and click Launcher.
  4. Click the document’s name to open it on your computer.
  5. Make your changes and save the document.
    • Select Save to save the changes only to Clio Manage. Select Save as to save the changes to Clio Manage and to save a copy in the Clio Launcher root folder on your computer. If you select a different folder after clicking Save as, the changes may not be updated in Clio manage.

 

Create new documents in Clio Launcher

When you create a new document from Clio Launcher, any changes made will be saved in Clio Manage and on your computer.

  1. Open the Clio desktop app and click Launcher.
  2. Click Create a new document.
  3. Name the document and choose the matter, destination folder, and document category.
  4. Click Create document.
  5. Begin typing in content when the file opens.
  6. Click Save to save the document.

 

Quit Clio desktop app

If you no longer want Clio Launcher running in the background, you can quit the Clio desktop app.

  1. Open the Clio desktop app.
  2. Click the gear icon.
  3. Select Quit.
